Venice – 2

The next day, my wife was clamoring for a long boat ride. So we decided to go to the furthest point, a place called Piazza San Marco. It was a really beautiful open space. Unfortunately it was really cold and pretty windy – we were in fall gear and it was a little colder than fall. I was foolish enough not to consider wind chill – with all the water around. Like Sherlock Homes, if I get too cocky,my wife will probably remind me of this :). So keeping photography to a minimum, we went over to the basilica di San Marco. Pretty interesting place. After walking around in there and taking a couple of pics, we went over to a couple of museums nearby.

One advice for people going to Venice – get the Venice card if you are under 30. It reduces the cost for all the places you go to. The fact that I qualified makes me feel really young :).

We had lunch in some random place and then went to a couple of cathedrals. Most of the ones we went to were recommended in Lonely planet – we got the cathedral pass. For dinner we went to a place called Ganesh Ji – it was one of the few places which had decent veggie food according to Lonely planet. We ate quite a bit and the remaining food was packed for the next day. If you are in Venice, and are dying for Indian food, consider this one.

The next day we went to some more cathedrals and a museum called Ca Pesaro. Pretty decent museum. We had ice cream in a place called Boutique del Galato. Nice place.

For lunch, we just had the leftovers from the previous day. Dinner was unfortunately a sad affair – we went to Gam Gam again but it was closed for Friday (Jewish). So we went to another restaurant but it was also full. My wife was pretty bugged by then and so we went to some random restaurant. It was pretty bad food. One thing to note though – the two guys running the place would not have been out of place on a pirate ship. It was really amusing. They looked like Long John Silver (except for the wooden leg and the parrot) and Captain Flint. Anyway, we just went to bed after a crappy dinner.

Next day we left for Vienna.
